Fake Fiverr payout page asks freelancers for card details

A copy of the Fiverr website tells a freelancer that a buyer has already paid and that the money is waiting. To release it, a support chat that opens by itself asks for bank card details and calls it a one-time identification. The card number, expiry date and security code are collected on a second website. Being paid never requires your card number or security code.

The cloned Fiverr page. The chat asks for card details for a one-time identification, while the panel promises the session is encrypted and that there are no charges. Nothing was covered; the page shows no personal information.

What to do

  • Close the page and open Fiverr yourself, by typing the address or using the app. Money you are really owed shows up in your own account.
  • Never give card details in order to receive money. Being paid does not require your card number or security code.
  • If you entered card details, phone your bank on the number printed on your card and ask them to stop the card, then check your statement for a few weeks.
