Trump-branded crypto giveaway website promises to double deposits

A website using Trump imagery and the name trumpamerica[.]io claims that people can send cryptocurrency and receive twice as much back. Its instructions tell visitors to send coins to a special address and say the doubled amount will be returned immediately. That is a classic cryptocurrency giveaway warning sign: sending funds does not create a right to receive anything back.

What to do

  • Do not send cryptocurrency to the site or to any address it displays. Cryptocurrency transfers usually cannot be reversed.
  • If you already sent funds, save the transaction hash, wallet address, screenshots, and messages. Contact the exchange or wallet provider you used as soon as possible, but be cautious of anyone promising to recover the money for a fee.
  • Report the website and the wallet address through the relevant cryptocurrency platform and your local fraud-reporting service.

What this alert does not establish

  • This alert is based on the public page and screenshot supplied to CSRF. It does not establish who operates the site or how many people have sent funds.
  • A real public figure or organization would not need you to send cryptocurrency first in order to receive a guaranteed doubled payment.
