LinkNYC Tax-Scam Campaign Reaches 800K+ Impressions

A tax-season awareness run on NYC kiosks turned a classic refund-scam lure into a public warning — reaching New Yorkers when fraudsters target taxpayers most.

Our latest LinkNYC public-awareness campaign, timed to tax season, reached over 800,000 impressions across LinkNYC kiosks in Manhattan. The run focused on tax-refund scams — one of the most common lures of the season.

Refund-scam messages typically pressure people into handing over bank details, card numbers, or one-time codes by promising a fast payout. The kiosk creative pairs a familiar lure with a plain reminder that the IRS doesn't operate that way, and points viewers to scamarchive.org/report to look up and document scams they encounter.

Why tax season

Tax season is peak season for fraud. Running the campaign while these lures were freshest in people's inboxes and texts meant the warning landed at the moment it mattered most — reaching Manhattan commuters, residents, and visitors at street level, with no app or sign-up required.

What's next

We're planning more seasonal scam-awareness runs and looking to partner with local organizations, schools, and businesses.
