About the campaign
Tax season is peak season for fraud. The IRS doesn't email or text refund offers, but scammers do — and "fast refund" lures pressure people into handing over bank details, card numbers, and one-time codes.
We ran the campaign while those lures were freshest in people's inboxes and texts, putting a plain-language warning in front of commuters, residents, and visitors at street level — no app, no sign-up, no jargon.
What people see
- —A familiar refund-scam line, reframed as a warning instead of bait.
- —A clear reminder that the IRS doesn't operate that way.
- —A direct link to scamarchive.org/report so anyone can document and look up scams.
