A quick reminder about messages that ask you to hurry
Most scams work the same way. A message arrives, it says something is wrong, and it wants you to act right now — click this, call this number, send a payment, read back a code.
The pressure is the tell. A real bank, delivery company, or government office is fine with you hanging up and calling them back on a number you already have.
So the rule is simple. Do not use the link or the phone number in the message. Go to the company the way you normally would — their app, their website, the number on your card — and ask them if it was really them.
If you are ever unsure, bring it to us. [YOUR ORGANIZATION] is happy to look at a message with you, and you will never be made to feel silly for asking.
Still to fill in: [YOUR ORGANIZATION]. Replace it before you send this.
Before you send it: Swap the last paragraph for your own contact details, or drop it if you would rather not invite messages.
Before you distribute this
- Use it: Monthly or quarterly newsletters, member emails, and bulletins.
- Replace every bracketed placeholder with your organization's own details.
- Open every web address yourself before printing it.
