Drawing the poster…

What the poster says, as text

A job should never cost you money.

If you have to pay to start work, it is not work.

A real employer will not

  • Ask you to pay for equipment, training, or a background check
  • Send you a check and ask you to send part of it back
  • Hire you over text or chat without ever speaking to you
  • Want your bank details or documents before there is a written offer

Look the company up yourself and call their listed number. Bring the message to us and we will look at it together.

Your organization

Fill these in and they appear on the poster straight away — and on everything else you use here. Leave them blank and the poster prints with an empty box to write in.

Your logo stays on your own computer. It is not sent to us or to anyone else.

Why the check trick works

A check can show up in a bank balance days before the bank finds out it is fake. People send the money on in good faith, and then the bank takes back the full amount.

If anyone asks you to deposit a check and forward part of it, that is the scam, every time, with no exceptions.

Notes for whoever prints this

  • Add the name of a staff member people can bring a job offer to.
  • The last line is the important one: make it easy to ask, and people will ask before they pay.

Before you distribute this

  • Use it: Career centers, job clubs, campus job boards, and workforce programs.
  • Replace every bracketed placeholder with your organization's own details.
  • Open every web address yourself before printing it.
  • Current warnings live at watchout.report. Check the date on anything time-sensitive.
